Joining

Interested in joining Troop 463? These are the steps that each scout family needs to complete.

Regular Tuesday Meetings

We highly recommend joining one of the regular Tuesday meetings.

Please confirm ahead of time; there are weeks we don’t meet at church.

New Prospect Info Nights

Every year our troop also hosts special Info Nights for 5th grade Cub Scouts (aka AOLs). Please contact troop463info@gmail.com for the next available info night. Come to an Info Night to learn more about Troop 463, our philosophy, and see if we may be a good fit for your family.

Qualification Hike

If you know your son wants to join Troop 463 or is thinking about joining the troop, he should be on a hike! We are an outdoor troop and hiking is a big part of having fun on the outings. A parent or guardian must accompany him. Details will be emailed to families that are interested before the hike, we usually offer the hike between November and January.

Scoutmaster Conference

Schedule a meeting when your son is ready to pass 1a, 1c, 1d, 1f, and 4a of the 1/2018 Scout Rank requirements, as specified in this link: http://usscouts.org/advance/boyscout/bsrank1.asp
You can also find it in the Webelos Handbook ‘Scouting Adventure’. It is usually scheduled during Webelos Day (it used to be the first weekend in February) but can be done earlier.

Paper work

These items must be completed prior to scheduling the Scoutmaster conference.

Parent Commitment to the Troop

Parents play a critical role in the Troop and in the success of their son’s scouting experience! At a minimum, we ask all parents to commit to the following:

  • Full participation in all fundraising events.
    • Two shifts per scout (A shift includes 1 scout and at least 1 parent) during Sunnyvale Art and Wine Festival, held the first weekend of June (June 3-4, 2023)
    • Support at any events added on by the Parent Committee.
  • Attend one Board of Review every year.
  • Attend Parents Committee Meeting (2nd Thursday of each month) at least one per quarter.
  • Volunteer in any capacity.

New Parent Meeting

After joining the troop parents will be invited to a New Parent Meeting (end of March or beginning of April, depending on necessity) to get more information about the troop, learn about volunteering opportunities and recommended camping gear.
